Descrizione

Originarie dell'mwegIndia orientale e del mwewBangladesh, da dove si sarebbero diffuse verso l'mwfaAsia orientale e le isole del mwfqPacifico, le colocasie sono piante erbacee con foglie di grandi dimensioni (anche 80mwfg cm di lunghezza), di forma ovale o tondeggiante e margini ondulati, sostenute da grossi gambi carnosi e rigidi che si sviluppano da mwfwrizomi sotterranei. Producono mwgafiori a forma di imbuto e colore giallo-crema, lunghi 20–40mwgq cm, simili a quelli delle mwggcalle; da un punto di vista mwgwbotanico, si tratta in realtà di un'mwhainfiorescenza detta mwhqspadice, ovvero di una spiga di minuscoli fiori avvolta da una grande mwhgbrattea.cite-ref-encarta-2-0[2].
